Seeing Red..Overdrawn is a large-scale artwork by artists Ackroyd & Harvey, depicting thousands of species at a high risk of extinction. The artwork was exhibited in its first edition at the launch of the David Attenborough Building, University of Cambridge in 2016.
4,734 Critically Endangered species from the IUCN Red List Version 2015-2014. Downloaded on 22 October 2015. A participatory and evolving artwork that takes inspiration from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
Members of the public are invited, one at a time, to participate by over-writing a species of their choice, wearing cotton gloves to handle the pens and protect the canvas.
To date, more than 169,400 species have been assessed for the Red List with a goal to assess 260,000 species and reassess 142,000 of those species.
More than 47,000 species are threatened with extinction.
