XR Paint the Streets Campaign
In 2019 Extinction Rebellion (XR) started a UK-wide campaign to inspire people to paste over local advertising, raising public awareness of the climate crisis and advertising the groups occupation of Central London in April and October 2019.
Participants were given digital tools and directions to add their own posters to a set of pre-made posters designed by a various graphic artists and designers who, using the same tools, also added created their own posters and tools. These posters were sent out across the UK with the same tools. Local XR groups then added their own posters. These mixtures were then pasted across adverts all over the UK.

This set of posters includes three earlier posters, the earliest examples of the Extinction Rebellion ‘tool-kit’ in action.
The original Paint the Streets brief was devised by Iggy Fox (RIP) and Clive Russell for April 2019. Paul Nelson continued the brief for the October Rebellion, 2019.
